Sizing & Care Guide

Two practical things that protect your ring: getting the size right, and looking after it once you have. Neither takes much effort.

Finding her ring size

This is the part people worry about most, and it's the easiest part to solve. Ask us for a free ring sizer and we'll post it to you. It takes a couple of days to arrive and removes all the guesswork.

If you'd rather order today, the safest option is honest: order with a close size and resize after the proposal. We offer free resizing within 60 days of delivery, and most of our clients do exactly this. It's far better than delaying a proposal to win an argument with a sizing chart.

Measure at home

  1. 1.Measure the inside diameter of a ring she already wears on that finger, in millimetres. A ring that fits is a far better guide than a piece of string.
  2. 2.Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest — not first thing in the morning.
  3. 3.Avoid measuring when she's cold. Cold fingers can sit up to half a size smaller.
  4. 4.If you're between sizes, go slightly larger on a plain band. On a fully stone-set band, ask us first — some can only be adjusted downward.

One warning: full eternity bands — the ones with stones all the way around — cannot be resized at all, because there's no plain metal to work with. If you're choosing one of those, get the size right before ordering. Ask us for the sizer.

Caring for your ring

Clean it weekly

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Work gently around the setting where oils collect, rinse, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Skip ultrasonic cleaners on pavé or halo settings — they can loosen small stones.

Take it off for the rough stuff

Gardening, gym sessions, washing up, swimming. Chlorine and abrasives dull metal and can erode settings over time. The single biggest cause of damage we see is jewelry worn where it shouldn't be.

Have it checked yearly

Prongs wear and loosen with daily wear. A quick annual inspection catches a loose stone before it becomes a lost one. Ours is free, for life — just get in touch and send it to us.

A note on gold purity

We work in 10k, 14k and 18k gold, in white, yellow and rose. Higher purity means more actual gold — richer color, and softer metal. Lower purity wears harder, which matters on a ring worn every day.

  • 10k — 41.7% gold. The hardest wearing. Good for daily-wear bands and larger stones.
  • 14k — 58.5% gold. The most common engagement ring choice, and the balance we'd usually recommend.
  • 18k — 75% gold. Richest color, slightly softer. Lovely for heirlooms and special-occasion pieces.

White gold is rhodium-plated to achieve its bright finish. Rhodium wears eventually — typically every 12–24 months with daily wear — and re-plating is a quick job we can do for you.
